Beyond Ecotourism-where fascinating Venezuela is only a few keystrokes away

GENEVA SITE OF SECOND GLOBAL SUMMIT ON PEACE THROUGH TOURISM

Geneva has been selected as the site of the Second Global Summit on Peace through Tourism to be
held February 5-8, 2003. The Summit is being organized by the International Institute for Peace
through Tourism (IIPT), in partnership with the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC).
Venue of the Summit will be the UN Conference Center (CICG), a short
distance from the Palais des Nations, head offices of the UN in Geneva.

The goals of the Summit are to
develop a beginning coordinated strategy for the role of travel and tourism as a leading force for
poverty reduction, and secondly, to continue developing partnering relationships that contribute to the
building of a "Culture of Peace through Tourism," including the goal of poverty reduction. The Second
Global Summit is in support of the UN Decade of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World.
Keynote speakers will include Nobel Peace Prize winners, international travel and tourism industry
statesmen, and world leaders in the areas of economic development, culture and heritage, and
environment. The Summit will feature a "Government - Industry - Donor - NGO Roundtable that will
focus on development of a strategy for the role of travel and tourism in poverty reduction..

As Geneva is home to about 170 NGO's and 19 Inter- governmental organizations, of which 9 are part
of the UN system, it offers excellent potential for achieving the second goal of the Summit - further
development of partnering relationships that contribute to the "Building of a Culture of Peace through
Tourism. Two roundtables will be organized in September with representatives of selected organizations
with a view to exploring potential partnering relationships and the linking of programs to achieve
greater impact. A third roundtable will be organized jointly with the World Bank in Washington.

The Inter-Continental Hotel Geneva, approximately a ten minute walk from the UN Conference
Center, has been selected as the Official Hotel of the Summit and Conventus of Switzerland as
the Conference Management Company.
